Long live the season of the bob — Lucy Liu is the latest to join the haircut club alongside Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Lopez, Dua Lipa, and plenty of others. The actress showed up to a New York City gala on October 17 with an entirely new look, complete with a blunt-cut, bang-less bob. According to Liu’s Instagram, the cut is the work of hairstylist Marco Santini — not shocking, considering she trusted him to lighten her hair to a dusky blonde shade last May. “Because this chic new cut by @_marcosantini1 is too good not to highlight w @kristoferbuckle magic make up,” Liu captioned one of her Instagram posts showcasing her new bob.
The cut comes all the way up to Liu’s jawline. It’s a rare occasion to see the Why Women Kill star’s hair this short. People were shocked enough to see she’d gone shoulder-length back in late July of this year, so, yeah, we’d say this crop is a bit unexpected. In fact, we’re confident in saying this is the shortest Liu’s hair has ever been. Her fans are clearly loving the look just as much as she is, based on a scroll through her tens of thousands of Instagram comments, which are just littered with heart emojis.
The inward flip of Liu’s hair also warrants mentioning, thanks to the look’s recent trendiness. Straight, blown-out hair that’s flipped in one direction at the ends is a definite, albeit subtle, nod to the popular styles of the late ’90s and early ’00s, which has resurfaced as of late. Take a look at recent styles on Lopez, Sophie Turner, and Kim Kardashian. Sure, all trends are inherently cyclic in nature, but we didn’t realize we’d basically be reliving 2001 all over again. Just keep the low-rise jeans.
